We’re experiencing a baby boom here at American Rivers, so it’s a good time for a run-down of potential river-themed baby names. Of course there’s the obvious “River” but there are also opportunities for creativity (just remember that your child has to live with this name for the rest of his/her life). Rachel Carson Sense of Water Contest 2012
The 2012 Rachel Carson contest will focus on water, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act. The scientist and author, Rachel Carson, is the inspiration of the EPA’s Rachel Carson intergenerational contest.

Year of the River Video Project: White Salmon Restoration
Second video on the Year of the River. The restoration of Washington's White Salmon River begins on October 26, when a hole will be blasted at the base of Condit Dam. Removing the outdated 125-foot tall dam will restore the health of the river and habitat for salmon and steelhead.
