Barker Creek Restoration Planting & Beachwalk
Puget Sound and our partners at the Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group to celebrate the completion of an amazing estuary restoration project on Barker Creek in Kitsap County.
Mid Sound FEG was able to raise over half a million dollars to replace an undersized culvert with a 73-ft arched culvert that will allow natural tidal flow and fish passage into Barker Creek. We will celebrate by taking a beachwalk with our Director of Science at 9:30, then planting native vegetation to begin to restore the natural forest canopy. For a close up look of this project, click here. This is a great time for installing plants, but come prepared for inclement weather.
Directions:
Coming from North or South, head toward Silverdale on State Route 3. Take exit 45 (45b/E. Bremerton from the south), to Rt. 303/NW Waaga Way. From the north you will turn left onto NW Waaga Way, and from the south you will be merging right onto Rt. 303. Continue South on Rt. 303 to the Central Valley Rd. exit. Go straight through the first light and it becomes NW Bucklin Hill Rd. You will be paralleling Rt. 303, heading in the opposite direction. Pass signs for the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, and at the first light you will turn left onto Tracyton Blvd. Go 1.0 miles and at the bottom of a hill you will see Barker Creek Place, a dirt road to the left. Park along the side of the dirt road, and the project will be along Tracyton Blvd. We will have signs and set up at the entrance to Barker Creek on Tracyton Blvd. that you will see.
