Bicycle Alliance of Washington

The Bicycle Alliance of Washington advocates for bicyclists and a bike-friendly Washington.

Bicycle Alliance members believe that bicycling in Washington is inexpensive, healthy and fun, and that bicycles are a viable transportation choice.

We are a membership driven organization working year round to: advocate for adequate funding for a complete non-motorized transportation infrastructure;  provide Washington residents a statewide clearinghouse for bicycle education and advocacy;  increase the percentage of all types of bicycle ridership in Washington; ensure that bicycles are recognized as a reasonable and mainstream transportation choice; provide Safe Routes to School education across the state and  encourage  Washington to become bicycle-friendly; and embrace a Share the Road philosophy.

Featured story

The Bicycle Alliance is dedicated to growing and supporting bike riders in Washington State. This includes making sure the next generation of bike riders are taught safety skills and are encouraged to ride. As part of our safe routes to school program, we work with school districts to teach a 2-week curriculum to all middle school students. Since 2011, we have brought the curriculum into over 30 school districts across the state. Over 10,000 middle school students are now learning bike and pedestrian safety skills each year!

Mission

The Bicycle Alliance of Washington advocates for a bicycle-friendly state, educates people of all ages to increase transportation safety, develops more inclusive communities for cycling, builds a coalition of organizations, and seeks to make bicycling accessible to everyone. VISION: By 2020, bicycling is an everyday, mainstream activity in communities across Washington. Bicycling is recognized, accommodated and funded as a legitimate and essential mode of transportation. Washington residents embrace a healthy and active lifestyle that includes safe and convenient active-transportation options. As a result, Washington communities enjoy lower health-care costs, a cleaner environment and more transportation choices. Washington is a national model for innovative bicycle-friendly transportation facilities and programs.
