Native Plant ID Field Course
The month of May with its explosion of flower color, leaf shape and delightful scents is the perfect time to explore the incredible variety of native plants all around us! Join seasoned plant ecologist and Native Plant Steward Holly Zox as we investigate different natural environments in western Snohomish County, and learn the native plants that call each place home. Native plants not only give us cleaner air, they also prevent flooding and erosion; filter pollutants out of rainwater; create habitat for fish, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects; and play a crucial role in stream ecology.
In this 10-hour course (broken into three sessions), you'll learn about the different habitats we encounter, the specific requirements plants need to survive in each place, and excellent field characteristics to help you identify the plants we discover. We'll spend the majority of our time outdoors, mostly on trails, so please dress accordingly. There will be restrooms at each location.
