Accomplishments of Our Organizations
Here are just a few examples of local projects supported by contributions
to Earth Share of Washington:
- hiking trail maintenance: 67,000 hours of volunteer
work throughout Washington in 2004, equivalent to fifteen 5-person trail
crews working full-time for one year.
- habitat restoration: 100,000 hours devoted to nurturing
degraded ecosystems back to life.
- environmental education: 450 curricula for Washington
teachers, complete with lesson plans and videos.
- projects for young people: 140 outdoor projects just
for teens, from one to several days, clearing brush, replanting vegetation,
learning teamwork.
- wildlife protection and shelter: rehabilitation and
care for 7,500 injured and orphaned animals.
- stream restorations: 16 counties throughout Washington
State.
- serving low-income communities and communities of color:
training programs for residents. The South Park Project, for example,
trains low-income women in King County to identify and minimize environmental
hazards.
- help for homeowners: a toll-free Toxics Hotline (800-844-SAFE)
for individuals with questions about toxic chemicals in or near their
home, and for people who wish to reduce their exposure to such chemicals.
