Mountains to Sound Greenway Tree Planting: Hundres of volunteers needed!
The Mountains to Sound Greenway is enlisting the help of volunteers to help kick-off this fall's tree planting season in the Greenway by planting trees at Squak Valley Park on October 16th. This event will begin a campaign to plant over 25,000 native trees and shrubs in several natural areas in the Greenway.
TREE PLANTING KICKOFF EVENT DATE: October 16th, 2010 - 9:00AM - 3:00PM
An annual tradition, the Greenway Trust is hosting a series of native tree and shrub plantings starting with the October 16th Kick-Off. Sponsored in part by Carter Subaru, KMTT-The Mountain, and REI, the celebration will feature food, music and vendors for the whole family to enjoy, plus plenty of trees to plant. Planting events are excellent for individuals, families, groups, and work teams. No experience is required. Those who can't attend the Kick-Off are encouraged to sign up for other events in the series. Additional free family-friendly tree planting events are
scheduled for Saturdays in October, November and December.
Volunteers will have fun getting dirty, learning about native plants and exploring new areas. In the valley between Squak and Tiger Mountains, the newly restored Squak Valley Park boasts young alder saplings, willow, salmonberries draped over Issaquah Creek, and habitat for salmon and woodland wildlife.
The project has been funded by the City of Issaquah, King County, King Conservation District, a
Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program Riparian Protection grant and the Salmon
Recovery Funding Board.
Plant a tree, leave a legacy!
