PAWS Wildlife Benefits from Dedicated Volunteers

December 18, 2003

Most of us know how much volunteers support non-profits. There is nary a non-profit that hasn't benefited, and at times survived, because of the dedication of people who work in alignment with their values and beliefs to make things happen. It is always gratifying to support these special people whenever possible.

Recently, this was possible in a big way at the PAWS Wildlife Center due to the generosity of a group of kindhearted volunteers. The PAWS Wildlife Center has a "Sunshine Shack", that is to say, a brand new volunteer station. The project was fully funded by a PAWS volunteer and then constructed by a group of people who had the skills needed. The Wildlife Center Volunteer Station used to occupy a small corner of the Wildlife Center Reception Lobby. This was a cramped and crowded area where volunteers were asked to store their belongings, eat their snacks, sign in, read the Wildlife Center news and keep their voices down all at the same time.

Now, their wildlife center volunteers have a beautiful, clean, purpose-built, spacious 10' x 12' building where they can chat with each other, post interesting photos and articles, sit down and have a cup of tea or watch one of the release videos without being reminded to shush.

It is a great feeling support the comfort of volunteers by giving them a space they can call their own. We couldn't do this work without them. Are you interested in volunteering to support the work of rehabilitating sick or injured wildlife? Please contact Lauren Glickman from PAWS Wildlife at laureng@paws.org.
