Youth Event Leader- Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust

Position Description: The Youth Event Leader will engage, energize, and educate youth
through land stewardship-based Summer Camps and one-day volunteer events in the
Mountains to Sound Greenway. The Greenway Trust currently coordinates several hundred
volunteer events each year doing tree planting, invasive plant removal, trail work and other
enhancements on public lands in the corridor. These events include regular weekend and
midweek events and specialized events for groups, with high rates of youth involvement. The
Youth Event Leader will be primarily responsible for coordinating and leading the Greenway
Summer Camps, in order to create a safe, fun, educational volunteer environment for youth
and to assist the Greenway Trust in meeting its restoration and resource enhancement goals.
The Youth Event Leader will also help the Greenway Trust lead volunteer events during the
busy spring months, including youth-specific projects for schools, community groups, and
others. This position is ideal for an outgoing, energetic, organized individual with experience
working with youth and a passion for the outdoors.

Reports to: Volunteer Program Coordinator

Responsibilities: The Youth Event Leader is responsible for the following:
• Coordinating and leading the Greenway Summer Camp program, providing a positive,
educational volunteer experience for youth 10-18 years old
• Leading additional youth-specific volunteer events in the Greenway during the spring
and late summer 2-4 days per week, including Saturdays, while providing a safe and
fun environment for volunteers
• Developing supplementary educational activities and materials for variety of youth age
groups to be used during the Summer Camps and one-day stewardship events
• Increasing youth participation in Greenway volunteer activities by effective outreach
through public presentations, preparation and distribution of youth-specific volunteer
outreach materials online, through mailings, newsletter articles, and other media.
• Developing long-term relationships with individuals and volunteer groups
• Strengthening public understanding of the Greenway through education at volunteer
and other events
• Learning new skills while assisting Washington Conservation Corps crews in
accomplishing land stewardship objectives
• Other tasks as requested

Qualifications:
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Demonstrated experience working with youth in an outdoor setting and developing
program activities and materials
• Proven personal initiative and ability to handle multiple tasks and projects in a fast
paced environment, to prioritize, use good judgment, and problem solve.
• Verified experience in coordinating and supervising volunteers
• Excellent written communication and public speaking skills
• Professional demeanor
• Strong organizational skills
• Education or experience in natural resource fields, ecological restoration and/or trail
maintenance techniques strongly desired
• Standard computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Reliable transportation and valid drivers license with insurable driving record
• Must successfully pass a criminal history background check
• Wilderness First Aid (or higher) and CPR training desired.

Salary: $600/week. Benefits are not included beyond those required by law.
Work Schedule: Full time, exempt, temporary position from early May through the end of
August, with the possibility of extension. Required attendance for all Summer Camp dates,
with flexible schedule before and after the camp season, including weekends and occasional
evenings.

Work Location: Primary work location is at the Greenway Trust Field Base in Issaquah, WA
where transportation is then provided to work sites throughout the Greenway, along with
regular visits to the Greenway Trust’s downtown office for meetings, trainings, etc.
