Healthy Farms, Healthy Sound talk in Mount Vernon

The gathering and growing of edibles is not limited to land-based farming. Learn about the many types of edible seaweeds and seagrasses grown in the waters of Puget Sound –how to identify them, harvesting and preparation techniques –and how their presence or absence indicates the health of Puget Sound! Join us for an informative and engaging discussion, with Andrew J. Rice of Academic Adventures, a dynamic science education program for students of all ages, based in Anacortes. Additionally, members of the WSU/Skagit County Beach Watchers will be selling copies of their popular laminated “Common Intertidal Seaweeds and Seagrasses of the Salish Sea” cards. Start the evening off with a bowl of “Skagit Soup.” Please bring your own bowl and spoon! RSVP’s appreciated so we know how much soup to prepare. This series is co-organized by People For Puget Sound, the Washington Sustainable Food and Farming Network, Skagit River/Salish Sea Slow Food Convivium and the Skagit Valley Food Co-op.
