Nat'l Trails Day! Barclay Lake Trail: WTA Work Party
Skykomish Ranger District
This work party starts at 8:30AM
National Trails Day. Located off of Hwy 2, Barclay Lake Trail is one of the most popular non-wilderness hikes in this district. Join us as we tackle any maintenance projects that the winter storms have left behind. This will be a fun Nat'l Trails Day project and is the first of many projects within this district that WTA will be a part of this summer.
The trail meanders along the course of Barclay Creek through mossy, shady forest all the way to Barclay Lake. Hiking is easy; elevation gain is minimal. Views of the north face of towering, seemingly overhanging Baring Mountain can be had from the lake. This is one of the most popular non-wilderness trails in the Skykomish district, and because of mud and brush it needs constant maintenance.
Driving directions:
From Seattle, drive north on I-5 to Everett and exit onto US Highway 2 (Stevens Pass). Follow US 2 some 6 miles east beyond the Index junction. Turn left at Baring onto Barclay Creek Road 6024 (also signed 635th Place NE). Cross over the railroad tracks and follow the road 4.3 miles (gravel) to the trailhead at the end of the road, elevation 2200 feet. (Driving time from Seattle: approximately 1.5 hours.) Also, if you wish to avoid I-5 and the Everett traffic and you are coming from the south, you can drive I-405 north from Bellevue and just before Woodinville turn onto Highway 522 to Monroe/Stevens Pass. At Monroe you join Highway 2 and continue according to the above instructions.
