Chiwaukum Creek: WTA Work Party
Wenatchee River Ranger District
This work party starts at 8:30AM
Central Cascades near Leavenworth. Spend your day or weekend working on a trail that takes hikers in to a spectacular basin situated within the Alpine Lake Wilderness. We won't get that far in on this work party, but you will get to contribute to annual maintenance projects including log-out, brushing the trail corridor and improving sections of the tread, within the first two miles of the trail. Find a dispersed campsite on Saturday night if you would like to make this a weekend event.
The normal route to Chiwaukum Lake is a ten mile hike up forested Chiwaukum Creek and the more open North Fork Chiwaukum Creek. The lake itself is nestled below the Chiwaukum Mountains and is dominated by Snowgrass Mountain. From the lake there are trails up to beautiful Larch Lake and up and over McCue Ridge and the Scottish Lakes. We will be working on brushing, drainage structures, tread work and rock work on sections of the trail, 1 - 2 miles in from the trail head.
Driving directions:
From Leavenworth, start your odometer after you pass the gas station on the corner of Icicle Road and Highway 2 West. Drive 9.6 miles on Hwy 2 West and go left on the Chiwaukum Creek Road #7908. From Stevens Pass, travel Highway 2 East for 25.1 miles and go right on Chiwaukum Creek Road #7908 (if you reach the Tumwater Campground you've gone too far - turn around and go back about one mile). As you turn off of Highway 2, follow road #7908 for about 0.3 miles to the trailhead.
