Instructor
Jacqueline Powers, Principal, Powers Design Company.
Jacqueline has 20 years experience in interior design as a kitchen and bath planner; retail sales of hardwood flooring, carpeting, tile and furniture; display installation for retail stores, and theater scenery work. She is the author of a book about green home remodeling, and is driven by a desire to share what she learned when she chose to green her own practice as a designer and contractor.
Talk description
Interior designer and general contractor Jacqueline Powers shares practical tips and guidance for homeowners wanting to turn their homes into green living spaces. Her locally published book, Transitioning to Green, explains the types of "green" services and products available, and how to make decisions based on cost and sustainability when doing home remodeling, from small and simple changes to whole house retrofits.
This talk will give you tools to:
- Reduce your home's energy consumption, saving money and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Reduce your home's water consumption, saving money, reducing environmental impact, and helping the region to meet demand for clean water.
- Improve your home's storwater handling, reducing the pollution of streams, lakes and the sea and protecting the neighbourhood from flooding.
- Make the air inside your home cleaner and safer.
