Where we work

Here's a sample of activities our local member organizations undertook across the state in just one year (2010). This map only includes on the ground activities that deal with specific issues.

Location markers are very approximate and only show the general region activities took place in.

This map does NOT include the following:

  • Statewide programs like E-Cycle Washington that Zero Waste Washington helped launch that is in every county and every city with a population of 100,000+
  • Research, planning and education that deal with statewide and worldwide issues like climate change and global pollution. Things that can't be tied to a specific single location
  • Projects that are finished, yet have a long-term affect. For example the Wild Sky National Wilderness Area that many of our groups worked years to build and that will be around for for generations
  • Our national and international groups that do work in the state like The Nature Conservancy and Trust for Public Land.

The map shows only examples of activities and accomplishments in a particular area, not distribution of activities by hours, impact or anything measurable. For example a map pin may represent 1000 hours of volunteer work, or it may represent 15 children learning how to reduce their carbon footprint through the Safe Routes to School bicycle program. This is mainly to show which groups have worked recently on a particular program in a geographic area. Many of our groups work on projects that have statewide or greater impact.
